NO TO THE EXPANSION OF NORTHBROOK SCHOOL

Northbrook School in Lee, is to be redeveloped by Lewisham Borough Council.

Local residents support the building a new school within the community. However, the proposed plans are irrational and unreasonable -

  • At 600 pupils the school is considerably larger than it was before closure. The site is not large enough to comfortably house a larger school, resulting in cramped conditions for the pupils
  • The plan to use Manor House Gardens for sport and recreation means that the facilities will be less available for use by local residents and represents an infringement of the original purpose of the Gardens
  • The brightly coloured modern design is not in keeping with the neighbouring Conservation Area
  • The building entrance is too close to the road, causing a potential safety risk to pupils
  • The building height is excessive and out of keeping with the local built environment

We are asking Lewisham Borough Council not to proceed with the proposals in their current form. The council must reconsider the proposals and incorporate the interests and wishes of the community.

We, the undersigned, petition Lewisham Borough Council to reduce the size of the proposed redevelopment of Northbrook School, Lee, in the interests of both its prospective students and all residents of the area.
